MOBRIDGE – Services for Josephine Brams, 79, lately of Mobridge and formerly of Dupree, will be at 2 p.m. (MST) Friday in St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Dupree, with the Rev. John Lurvey officiating. Mrs. Brams died Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Mobridge Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge, with the Rev. James P. Barton of St. James Episcopal Church, Mobridge, officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home in Mobridge and Friday at the church in Dupree one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in the Dupree Cemetery.
Mrs. Brams was born March 10, 1896, in Saunders County, Neb. She homesteaded in the Dupree area with her family in 1910.
On June 4, 1917, she married John A. Pope. The couple lived a short time north of Dupree before moving to Wyoming, where Mr. Pope was employed by the Department of the Interior.
In 1924 Mrs. Brams returned to South Dakota, later moving to Dupree with her family. From 1942 until 1945 she lived in Seattle, Wash., and was employed in shipyards.
Returning to Dupree, Mrs. Brams married Sofus Brams Sept. 8, 1949. They made their home on a ranch northeast of Dupree. In 1964 they retired and moved into Dupree; Mrs. Brams has resided at the Mobridge Care Center since 1973.
Survivors include two sons, John and Edward Pope, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Mrs. H.C. (Nettie) Hannum, Bridgeport, Wash.; Mrs. Henry (Grace) Neubaumer, Columbus, Ohio; and Mrs. John (Lucille) Leff, Mobridge; three sisters, Lily Lightfield, Pierre; Helen Wenger Seattle; and Julie Frijouf Macoun, Saskatchewan, Canada; 16 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brams was preceded in death by her second husband in 1973, one son, one brother and two sisters.
