Christine J. Mathews, 87, of Ypsilanti, formerly of Monroe, died peacefully at 6:35 p.m. Thursday at University Hospitals, Ann Arbor.
Friends may call on Sunday from 12 noon until funeral services at 2 p.m. at Rupp Funeral Home. Rev. Nathan Clair of Huron Hills Baptist Church, will officiate. Private burial will take place at Monroe Township Cemetery.
Christine was born July 11, 1925 in Tazewell, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Silas and Bessie (Brooks) England. She married William F. Mathews October 13, 1953.
She was a nurse's assistant at Mott's Children's Hospital, Ann Arbor.
Christine attended Huron Hills Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Carter T. (Cheryl) Mathews of Kernersville, North Carolina; two daughters, Cathy Peer of Ypsilanti and Cindy (Doug) Lademan of Howell; a son-in-law, Emmons "Moe" Peer of Ann Arbor; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Mathews of Livonia; three brothers, David (Debbie) Miller of Woodhaven, Dale Miller of the Irish Hills and Alfred England of Belleville; a sister, Bernice Evanoff of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren, Shane Peer, Heather Peer, Tom Mathews, Toby Mathews, Stacie Borelli, Jeff Mathews and Spencer Lademan and three great grandchildren, Will Borelli, Miranda Borelli and Kiley Peer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, a son, Craig Mathews and a sister, Wanda England.
