He was born June 20, 1929, in Akron, to the late Forrest and Opal Amos.
He retired from Diamond Shamrock as the human resource director in 1994 after more than 40 years. He had also been the union representative for several years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he enlisted when he was 17, and was in Japan when it was occupied after the war.
Survivors are his sons, Rick (Susan) of Perry and Kelly (Marilyn) of Painesville; daughter, Susan (Larry) Hackley of Perry; grandchildren, Cheryl (James) Zelina, Josh (Kelly) Amos, Michael Campbell, Genise Campbell, Sara (David) LeMond, Mandy Hackley, Jason Sanner, and Jim Sanner; great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Justin, Jack, Sophie and Eli; and his loving dog, Beige.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; and brothers, Dennis and Troy Amos.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Perry Cemetery. The Rev. James Jensen of Perry United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
