Christopher Charles "Chris" Kirby, age 51, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011, at the family farm northeast of Shelbina.
He was born February 4, 1960, in Kirksville, the son of Charles and Lura Jane Hollenbeck Kirby. On December 28, 1990, he was united in marriage to Dee Dee Greening at Macon. She survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents; two daughters, Caroline and Courtney Kirby of Shelbina; sister, Lori Wilt and husband, David, of Shelbina; one niece, Lindsey Wilt; three nephews, Tyler Wilt, Jason and Ryan Chambers; uncle, Rex Hollenbeck and wife, Helga, of Shelbina; aunt, Becky Vanzant and husband, Shorty, of Shelbina; sister-in-law, Debbie Heavner and husband, Jim, of Cameron; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vic and Catherine Hollenbeck and paternal grandparents, Charles and Virginia Kirby.
Chris was a 1978 graduate of South Shelby High School and attended Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville. He was a member of the Kendall Methodist Church and was an avid history buff of the Missouri Civil War, being a member of the Sons of the Confederate. He served on the MFA Board and the Shelby County Farm Bureau Board. Chris was very involved in his daughter's academic accomplishments and sports. He had a lifelong passion for backgrounding cattle.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 19, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Thad Carter and Rev. Virgil Clow officiated. Burial was in Shelbina Cemetery.
The family suggested memorials to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or to the Children's Education Fund.
