MO death certificate #23602. Son of Abel Benson and Harriet Lindley Benson. His mother is listed as unknown on death certificate. His third wife Nannie is listed as wife on the death certificate. Age 83 years, 10 months, 26 days. Blacksmith. He was a musician in the cavalry during the Civil War having joined as a teenager. He married his first wife Mary Elizabeth Kendall, daughter of Edward J. Kendall in Hickory County, MO.

Mac/Max/McCloud and Tobitha/Tobiatha were married in 1861, only months before McCloud enlisted in the Civil War with his father. A letter written by McCloud's granddaughter, Nellie F. Benson, says her grandfather, Abel Macloud Benson, never returned from the Civil War.
