Beloved mother, sister and grandmother, Consuelo "Connie" Garcia, a long-time Valley resident and Arizona native, died Monday the 6th of May at Hospice Family Care Center in Gilbert.
Born in 1927 in Sonora, AZ, of a copper mining family, Connie moved to Phoenix in 1952. She retired from the Phoenix Elementary School District as a Records Supervisor in 1989.
Known by all for her wonderful smile and sense of humor, Connie loved to cook for her family. Her Spanish rice was a favorite among her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed listening to Spanish music on an old record player. Family and close friends knew her as "Chelo," a nickname she'd carried since childhood.
Connie dearly loved seeing her children and grandchildren. She set an example of the value of thrift and hard work that she learned during the Great Depression.
Connie was married to Jose Tapia Marquez, a miner and Veteran. After his death, she later married Francisco "Frank" Gonzales Garcia, a jeweler and Veteran. Connie will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In 2000, her eldest son, Jose Thomas "Tommy" preceded her in death.
Connie is survived by her children: Carmen, Carlos, Frank and Rudy.
Memorial Services will be held on June 8th at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Mesa at 10 A.M.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Gilbert, AZ Hospice Family Care Unit for their support during her final hours.
