Joe Solomon Garlington, age 84, died Wednesday, November 24 at his home in Phoenix. He was born on June 20, 1920 in Cleveland County, close to Bunn, Arkansas and was the son of Solomon Garlington and Martha Anna Wright.
He lived in the Fordyce, Arkansas area and attended college at Magnolia until her joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He was a member of the 3010th Army Air Forces Unit until his discharge in 1946 at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona.
While in Arizona, he married Charlene Abagail Clanton and made Phoenix their home. He worked at Reynolds Metals Company for 32 years until his retirement in 1980.
He is survived by his three children, their spouses and grandchildren - Alan and Karen Garlington - Scott, Aimee, Andrew and Erik of Tempe, AZ.; Johnny and Kim Garlington - Tami Kovach (Mike) and great-granddaughter, Hannah and Jeremy (Shawna) of Tempe, AZ.; Linda and Tom Stein - Shari and Gina of Peoria, AZ. Also surviving is one brother, Homer Garlington of Fordyce. His wife Charlene, his parents and 4 brothers and 2 sisters - Elva Johnson, Lillie Burford, Lewis, Bennett, Boyd and Charles Garlington, preceded him in death.
