(2nd Lt., Co. C, 19th Cav., C.S.A., Cross. JOHN POLK BROWNLOW, Columbia banker and civic leader for many years, was born on 17 Aug 1841. He was married to Hester Jean Ussery, dau. of William and Rebecca Rushing Ussery. Mr. Brownlow served as 2nd Lt. in Co. C., 19th Cav. during the Civil War, returning to Maury Co. where he entered banking field. Mr. Brownlow was very active as a deacon in First Baptist Church of Columbia. He died on 20 Oct 1917.; (MCTC).
