Funeral Services Held For Silas Elder

Funeral Services for Silas Elder were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawton Presbyterian church. The Rev. W.R. Smith officiated and burial was made in the Lawton cemetery under the direction of the W. Harry Christy funeral home. The Lawton Legion had charge of graveside services.

Pallbearers were Al Hall, Kermit Oliver, Elwood Norton, Guy Scott, Ralph Linquist and Stanley Monckton.

Music was furnished by a quartet, Avery and Carl Willer, Lawrence Eberly and Dale Kuhns, accompanied by Judy Vermilyea and a solo, ‘When the Roll is called Up Younder’, by Dale Kuhn.

Mr. Elder, a longtime resident of Lawton, died Saturday evening at his home after a brief illness. He was 83 years of age. A son, Robert F., died in 1937.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Clifford L. of Waco, Texas and Leonard G. of Renton, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Lulu Thornton of Wathena, Kansas, Mrs. Ina Harper of Leavenworth, Kansas and Mrs. Lyda Tyra of Modesto, Calif.; three brothers, Clyde and Fred, both of St. Joseph, Mo. and James of Darlington, Mo. and two grandchildren.
