Eva "Alfreda" Howell, age 89, of Macon, grandmother of Mrs. Elizabeth Barr of Clarence, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Macon Health Care Center.

Alfreda was born February 1, 1923, in Macon, the daughter of Homer Burton and Hallie Ethel (Baker) Head. She was married to Everett Adams on October 5, 1940 in Macon. After his passing on February 13, 1962 she married William Franklin James on February 16, 1963. On August 15, 1970 Alfreda married Paul M. Howell until his death on October 26, 2008.

She is survived by eight children, Liz Ricci of Springfield, Kay Crow (Larry) of Macon, Richard Adams (Brenda) of Washington, Pat McCain (J.W.) of Roanoke, AL, Sherri Britt (Ernie) of Callao, Terri Johnson (Rick) of Cairo, Tammi Fiedler (Tony) of Lee Summit, and Robert James (and his companion Terri) of Beaufort. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four step-sons, Paul William Howell of AZ, David Howell of TX, Greg Howell of Macon, and Mark Howell of FL, along with twelve step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Everett Adams and Paul Howell; two sisters, Fern and Joann; four brothers, Leroy, Carl, Victor and Kenneth Head; two sons-in-law, John Ricci and Tom Hall; and one great-granddaughter, Blythe Wilmes.

Alfreda was a very well known seamstress in the Macon area all of her life. She could make the most beautiful wedding dresses to mini doll clothes. If you were ever to meet Alfreda anywhere and ask how she was, it would be for certain she would say, "Fat and Sassy as always:. Her many conversations let to how proud she was of her family. Her children were her pride and job. Recentyl she told someone "You can say anything about me, but you had better not say anything bad about my kids."

Visitation was Tuesday, February 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Macon. Funeral services are Wednesday morning, February 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Jim Bolin conducting the service. Burial will be in the West Oakwood Cemetery in Bevier.

The family suggested memorials to the Hospice Compassus or the Macon Senior Nutrition Center.
