Jørgen Laursen Vig (August 31, 1918 born in Bjerager at Odder - and died 28 December 2005 in India) was a Danish theologian and owner of Hesbjerg Castle on Funen, which he bought in 1957 and owned until his death.
The film "The Monastery" by Pernille Rose Grønkjær made over the last seven years in Vigs life where he converted the dilapidated Hesbjerg castle into a monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church after the long-awaited permission. It is also a portrait of an eccentric who is passionate about his case, but along the way must recognize that the dream proves more difficult to realize than expected.
Mr Vig's burial services was carried out by abbot Theophane on January 12, 2006.
The urn containing the ashes (at the discretion of relatives and friends of cremated remains) was buried in the family cemetery in Odder (a small town in Jutland) only on April 11 2006.
