Age 87, died peacefully Sunday morning April 23, 2000 after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 27, 1912 in Ladysmith, son of the late Nicholas and Katherine (Nilles) Britten. On October 13, 1939 Ray married the former Marie Verkuilen, the couple resided in Kaukauna their entire married lives.
Ray worked for Thilamny Pulp and Paper and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Kaukauna.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, Kaukauna; four sons and five daughters-in-law:
William (Leigh),
John (Gail), all of Kaukauna:
Don (Terri), Sherwood;
Dave (Diane), Bailey, Colorado;
Mary Britten, Kaukauna; three daughters and two sons-in-law:
Rose Britten, Kaukauna;
Patricia (Alfred) Hietpas, Little Chute;
Nancy (Jack) Diedrich, Kaukauna;
16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a brother, Harold Britten, King. He is further survived by his wife's family, Joe (Ella) Verkuilen, Green Bay; George (Marie) Verkuilen, Oneida; Elmer (Rosemary) Verkuilen, Gertrude Verkuilen, all of Appleton; Ann Verkuilen, Kaukauna; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by two granddaughters, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Rose (Ralph) Kuehl, Ann (Earl) Brooks, four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Matt, Joseph, Nicholas (Helen) and Frank (Gertrude).
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Hilbert. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
