Arthur Hazard Doyle died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Georgetown County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Doyle was born March 23, 1929, in Florence, SC, a son of Joseph Ambrose Doyle and Ruth Hazzard Doyle.
He graduated from Winyah High School and The Citadel.
He taught English, history, and science at Winyah Junior High School. He was Assistant Principal at Beck Middle School and Georgetown High School. He pursued futher studies at Brendan College in Middlebury, Vt., and Peabody University in Nashville, Tenn.
He was a member of Winyah Indigo Society and the Cotillion Club of Georgetown. He was a supporter of Georgetown County Library.
He was a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He travelled extensively in Europe, Greenland, and the United States. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was truly a Southern gentleman.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou Staats Collins Doyle; a stepson, Herbert Maxwell Collins; a brother, Joe Doyle; a sister, Johnnie Morris; a triplet brother, Ingell Hazard Doyle; and a cousin, Frances Doyle, M.D.
He was survived by a triplet brother, James (Pat) Doyle; a sister, Sarah (Frank) Pusey; two stepsons, Frank (Nancy) Collins and David Collins; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday morning, May 20, 2013, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. The Very Rev. Paul C. Fuener officiated. Burial, directed by Mayer Funeral Home, followed in the Churchyard.
