Rev. Paul Adam Pressly, D. D.

Paul Adam Pressly was born on September 30th 1878 in Due West, South Carolina; where his father Rev. Dr. William Laurens Pressly was minister of Due West A.R.P. Church. Paul's mother was the former Miss Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Wideman.

Paul Pressly, like his ten sibling got his primary education in Due West and then attended Erskine College; graduating in 1900. He then entered Erskine Seminary in fall of 1902, having previously taught school for one year in Clover, South Carolina and having studied law for some time in the office of Judge J. H. Miller, of Birmingham, Alabama.

In 1903, Rev. Paul Pressly was licensed with the Second Presbytery at Due West and preached that year with the Texas Presbytery. Later that year, Paul married Martha Lois Moffatt, daughter of Augustus P. and Sarah Moffatt, on 10 September 1903 in Troy, Tennessee. They would have the following known children:

Lois Moffatt {m. Brice}(1905-1997)
William Laurens (1908-2001)
Pauline (1910-1911)
Effie Elizabeth {m. Strewler}(1911-1999)

In 1923, Rev. Paul Adam Pressly was called as the minister of the Chester A.R.P. Church in Chester, South Carolina; continuing there for thirteen years, until his death on April 22nd 1936. Rev. Pressly was laid to rest in the churchyard cemetery at Due West A.R.P. Church near his parents.
