ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Helen Eisenhower, 106, of Estherville will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at First Christian Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Helen Katherine (Williams) Eisenhower, the daughter of Bird and Carrie (Messner) Williams, was born Sept. 1, 1906, in Madison County. She moved with her family to Emmet County when she was six. Helen was baptized on Oct. 10, 1919.
On June 8, 1925, Helen was united in marriage to Arnold Eisenhower. To this union three daughters were born, one which died at birth, and Alice and Gladys. The couple managed the Estherville Ice House for a few years. Helen then worked at Wilson Bakery, Birney Drug Store and Estherville Dry Cleaners. At the age of 52, she became a professional seamstress, sewing until the age of 99. Helen has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society for the last seven years. She was a member of the First Christian Church for over 80 years.
Left to cherish Helen's memory is her daughter, Gladys Sabin, of Estherville; five grandchildren, Dennis (Carla) Sabin of Newton, Roger (Karen) Sabin of Estherville, Nancy (Steve) Willke of Weldon, Judi (Ted) Lodden of West Des Moines and Steve (Gayle) Moelkey of Mitchell, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces, nephews and her special prayer partner, Linda Racine.
Preceding Helen in death are her parents; husband, Arnold; daughter, Alice Moeckly Springer; three sons-in-law, George Moeckly, John Springer and Eldon Sabin; great-great granddaughter, Elizabeth Sevenson; three brothers and four sisters.
