Holly Benjamin Wilson, 98, passed away on Monday Feb. 11, at his home in Custer Township. He was born July 2, 1914, in Ludington, son of the late Benjamin and Edith (Holly) Wilson. He married Catherine Ann Reinoehl June 8, 1947. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2003. Holly was a 1932 graduate of Scottville High School. After the death of his father in 1933, he delayed college for several years in order to help support his family. He attended Michigan State College for two terms, where he was a pitcher for the 1938 freshman baseball team. Holly farmed in south Custer Township until his retirement. He served three terms on the board of directors of the Western Michigan Electric Cooperative. Always interested in music, Holly had been a member of the Ladies Band, the Clown Band, and the Mason County Grange Band. After retirement he played electric keyboards monthly at the area care facilities. He joined the Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren, and was elected a lifetime deacon when still a young man. He served faithfully in that position for over fifty years until leaving the church. Holly is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Ellen Wilson of Custer; sister-in-law, Ruth Reinoehl of Kalamazoo; and several nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Catherine; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Leonard Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Dora Wilson, Robert and Doris Wilson; brother-in-law, John Reinoehl; and infant niece, Darlene Wilson.
Cremation has taken place and final interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Custer. There will be a graveside service in the spring of 2013. Memorial contributions in memory of Holly may be directed to the Mason County Red Cross, or a charity of choice.
