Born at Fort Gordon, Ga., Mr. Thigpen was employed with civil service for 34 years, currently as a budget analyst and previously employed at H.R. Block tax preparation for seven years. He was an avid hiker, rafter, golfer and tennis player. A referee for football, basketball and an umpire for softball with M.W.R. Fort Gordon. Mr. Thigpen was involved in scouting, Weblo Pack 294 and Cubmaster Pack 202. His involvement in the development of youth continued with his assistance with the Boys Brigade at Fleming Church of God and the former Christian Education Director of Wrens Church of God. He was a member of HIS Community Church. Survivors include his wife Theresa Stewart Thigpen; son, Thomas Ruel Thigpen Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Thigpen Thomas and Robert H. Thomas; parents, Thomas M. and Margaret Greer Thigpen; two granddaughters, Morgan Thomas and Madison Thomas; brother, Michael Ellis Thigpen; sisters, Margaret Ann Wood and Linda Lee; nephew, Christopher Wood; and two nieces, Christen Greenway and Adarian Thigpen.
