Bud was a lineman then retired as an Engineer after 35 yrs with AT&T(PacTell). He served as an officer in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict; was an active member of Dads Club & Telephone Pioneers. He coached numerous championship baseball teams through his involvement with Modesto Baseball for Boys. He co-owned DH Cycles,Inc.
Gardening and teaching his grandchildren the love of gardening gave Bud great joy. Camping, fishing, and family meals were a huge part of his life.
He leaves his wife of 65+ yrs and three children: Sheila Ruiz Harrell(Al Lopez) of Modesto; Michael E Harrell(Mary) of Lakeville, MN; and David V Harrell(Barbara) of Modesto. Seven grandchildren: Virginia; Richard (Ouafa); Michelle (Arjan); Bruce (Tam); Courtney; Thomas; and Vincent, in addition to his six great grandchildren: Peter, Nicole, Greggory, Emma, Anneke, and Leo. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Gagnon and Zettie Gabrielson(Leonard) of Madera, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 24th at 10:00am, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 505 W Granger Ave, Modesto. Reception followed with many friends and family sharing great stories of Bud's impact on their lives. Packets of marigold seeds from his collection were handed out to plant in his honor.
