JOHN WELSH
John Welsh, for many years a resident of Darby and a former resident of Chester, died Monday in the National Soldiers Home, at Washington, D.C., after a two year illness. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Welsh, who had been a resident of the U.S. Soldiers Home for 12 years, had served in Troop B. Third United States Cavalry, from 1870 to 1875. He fought in several Indian uprisings, including the engagement at Free Fork, Arizona, and the Modoc uprising and the battle on the Sioux reservation two years before the Custer Massacre.

His father was a sailor in the United States Navy and was killed in an accident at Fall River, Mass., before the Civil War. Two of his sons served in the World War and three others served in different branches of the service at different times. Two of his sons served at Fort Riley, Kansas, the same place their father served. When a resident of Darby he lived at 28 North Tenth street. He was a retired sign painter.

His wife, the late Ella Keenan Welsh, died a number of years ago. His survivors are six sons, William, George, and Cecil Welsh, of Philadelphia; Rodney, of Upland; Leo of Darby, and Row Welsh, of Trenton, N.J., and two daughters, Mrs. Phillip McLoughlin, of Chester, and Mrs. John Speak, of Darby, Twenty-six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, also survive.

He will be buried with requiem mass solemnized at the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Darby, tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Yeadon.

Full military honors will be given at the cemetery by members of Corporal William C. Greifzu Post, No. 598, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
