George Dennison Mallory 1917-2006 Denny Mallory passed away on July 11, 2006, at the age of 89. He lived a full life, in the golden age of California. Born July 6 1917, he grew up in Berkeley. In 1939 he attended UC Berkeley. In the year 1940 he married his sweetheart, June Adele Hampton. Later that year he was accepted to the UC Berkeley School of Dentistry. After a years internship at Agnes State Hospital, Denny joined the Navy as a dentist and a lieutenant. He was sent off on the USS Pelias, which, due to engine trouble, spent the remainder of the war at the base on Midway Island. Upon returning he set up a practice in San Pablo, then, in 1949, he bought a new house in Pleasant Hill and started a practice on Oak Park Blvd. Eventually he moved his practice to Walnut Creek. In 1958 Denny and June spent the summer in Angola, Africa, helping to set up medical and dental clinics for the missions of the United Church of Christ, a high point of his life. For several years after he actively raised funds to support the clinics. At the same time, he also started a second business, Mallory Service Buildings, Inc. which is still going strong in the hands of his sons. In the 1960's his hobbies focused on rock hounding, photography and exploring the western deserts. Denny and June lived in various places in Contra Costa County and had four children. Their daughter Carol died in 1991, June passed away in 2001. Denny is survived by his three sons, David, Richard, James nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
