"Suggested edit: "The funeral of Mrs. Minnie Whisnand Holtzman Wednesday afternoon was an unusually sad occasion. At the close of the year of 1888—New Year's Eve—Miss Minnie Whisnand was united in marriage to W. Rice Holtzman, deputy postmaster. The wedding took place at the Christian Church and a large number of relatives and friends gathered to witness the happy event and wish for Mr. and Mrs. Holtzman a long and happy life together. Two weeks later—the 14th of January—Mrs. Holtzman was taken sick with what seemed to be typhoid fever. She soon grew very bad, but in a few weeks began to improve and there was strong hope that she was on the way to recovery. But a change for the worse came and after great suffering she passed peacefully Monday night at 8 o'clock. The funeral took place from the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The large audience room was crowded with friends of the deceased. Brother Dewater and Rev. S.R. Lyons conducted the ceremony. It was indeed a sad scene as the friends and associates paid the last tribute of respect to the bride of five month ago. The body, wrapped in the wedding gown, lay by the later at which the marriage ceremony was announced so short a time before. Mrs. Holtzman would have been 20 years old the 16th of next August, and was a general favorite among all her acquaintances. She became a member of the Christian Church in 1884. In this the saddest hour, Mr. Holtzman has the sympathy of the people of the community."
