Della Katherine Ballinger Horton, 86, of 12 Westwood Place died Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center following a brief illness.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. Mrs. Horton was a Homemaker, a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church and for the past few years had attended Westwood Baptist Church.

She was a daughter of the late John Sluder Ballinger and Ethel Parker Ballinger and the wife of the late Carroll Pritchard Horton who retired from the Asheville Police Department. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Jennings; grandson, Kelvin Clontz; sister, Lois Ballinger Brooks and brother, John Hugh Ballinger

Surviving are her sons, Tracy Horton and wife, Jayne who she resided with and William Horton of Horse Shoe; daughter, Anne Hunsucker of Arden; sisters, Faye Harper of Fairview and Blanche Brazille of Candler; sister-in-law, Helen Ballinger of Asheville; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Carson Moseley officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
