Naomi Yvonne Smith Turner, 80, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 28, 2011. Born in Burke County, NC on October 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Tellis Herman Smith and Hixie Marie Poteat Smith.

Yvonne was a devoted member of North Morganton Baptist Church, where she taught during Vacation Bible School and played piano when needed. She found much joy being the Sunday School Teacher of the Lydia Sunday School Class until her health declined.

For many years she was a cost accountant at Shadowline. After retirement from Shadowline, she helped the Board of Elections on Election Day. Yvonne loved to knit, cook, decorate cakes, and work in her flower gardens.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Yvonne is survived by a son, a daughter, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, a sister-in-law, two nephews and three nieces.

In addition to her parents, Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Alton Turner and her brother, Billy Tellis Smith.

The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery.
