ROCKY BOY - Martin "Partner" Stanley, 81, retired construction
worker and the last surviving World War II veteran from Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, at a Great Falls hospice of cancer.
A wake service began Thursday evening at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Rocky Boy. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ruth Votaw officiating. The burial with full military honors will follow the funeral service at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.
Martin was born on May 16, 1921, to James and Mary (Thornmaker) Stanley at Great Falls. He attended Franklin Grade School in Great Falls. Martin entered the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific Campaign.
Martin married Wilma Myers in Great Falls. They celebrated 57 years together March 20, 2003. He was employed as a construction worker for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Rocky Boy.
Martin was involved in the Native American Sweat Lodge Ceremonies.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Stanley; sons, Thomas and Clement James of Rocky Boy and Harvey, of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada; daughters, Jocelyn Stanley of Rocky Boy and Glenda Winterrowd of Great Falls; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
