Harriet was struck and killed by an automobile while crossing the road near her home. The newspaper article of the event also relates that she was a 1930 graduate of Paw Creek high school in Mecklenburg county and came to Guilford county for years ago with her parents. She was employed at Proximity Manufacturing company and was attending night school at Gate City Secretarial school.
Surviving were her parents, Rev. and Mrs. C.D. Barton, one sister, Miss Lila Barton, two brothers, Waldo and Charles Barton, all of whom live at the home.
