She and Dale had two children, Judith Bocox of Cheyenne, Wyoming, who worked for the telephone company for 30 years, but was forced to retire when she became ill with cancer and died in the Denver Cancer Treatment Center on September 11, 2001, the day the terrorists struck New York. Viola volunteered for 18 years at the Douglas Senior Citizens' Center in various capacities, such as the dining room, newsletter, Bargain Hut, craft fairs, bake sales, band and chorus, ceramics and crafts, exercise classes, cards, pool, bingo, walking club, dancing, and line dancing. She always won prizes for many of her unique costumes for Halloween and other occasions.

She was very artistic and did almost any craft, especially her very special wood carvings, also painting, quilting, crocheting, crewel embroidering, and refinishing old furniture, objects, and collectibles.

She loved gardening and flowers and won the two awards for yard of the month and yard of the year in 1976. Her late husband, Dale, deserved all the credit for all his fine rock work and the beautiful lawn at that time. Much later, her late friend and companion, Bob Vinich was responsible for the signs and other yard ornaments.

She also spent many years as caretaker for various friends and companions.
