Funeral services for Luther "Lu" Levere Lawson, 73Red Oak will be December 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-Demarce Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Watson officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, December 30 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce funeral Home. Mr. Lawson died Monday, December 29, 1997, at Montgomery Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 21, 1924 in Hamburg to Vernon and Peggy Greenly Lawson. He was raised in the Hamburg community and attended school at Hamburg. He moved to Red Oak in the early 1940's. He was united in marriage to Beulah M. Numm, January 3, 1946 in Red Oak. He served his country during World War 2 in the U.S. Army at Normandy, Norther France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. After the service he went to work at Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak in 1948 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2715 of Red Oak. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, three brothers, Herschel, Gene, and Don.
Surviving include his wife, Beulah Lawson of Red Oak; three sons, Da Lawson and his wife, Sharon of Mitchellville, Corey Lawson and his wife, Karen of Shenandoah, Farin Lawson and his wife Stephanie of Red Oak; three daughters, Jackie Woods and her husband, Mel of Cookeville, Tennessee, Annita Reich and her husband Gene and Peggy Gustafson and and her husband Ted of Red Oak; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Vivian Bottolfson and her husband, Carl of Aurora, Colorado; other relatives and friends.
