George was born on board the ship Princess Royal, off the southern end of South America (Patagonia), in a storm on 30 Sep 1854. As he had not reached the final destination he would be considered born in England. I have heard that he was never considered a "Native Son" and this bothered him his whole life.
George married Mary Ann Stubbins, daughter of Robert Stubbins, on 14 Feb 1874 in Nanaimo.
They had twelve children, some have memorial numbers, some don't.
