Daniel Clay Rodgers, age 86, of Richmond, passed on in the presence of his family on Monday, May 13, 2013, attended by Hospice at Reid Hospital. He was born September 18, 1926, in Kitchel, Indiana, to William and Esther Rodgers. Danny attended Kitchel High School and was a World War II veteran in the United States Army. He farmed on his family farm near 9 Mile Road in his youth and continued farming through his early marriage to Mary Clements Rodgers, his beloved wife of 64 years. After moving to Richmond he worked as a machine mechanic at the Belden, where he retired. Danny was a member of Four Mile Church of the Brethren. He was a volunteer in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, taking those with no transportation to doctor appointments and the grocery store. Danny also drove the Wayne County Veteran's van for years, helping vets in transportation to the Dayton Veteran's Hospital. In his younger years he enjoyed summer vacations with family, water skiing, and fishing. In later years he could be found at the Richmond Senior Community Center playing pool with friends. He will be missed by his family, wife, Mary; son, Rick Rodgers; daughter, Ronda (Don) Pope; grandsons, Michael Ritz of Providence, Rhode Island, and Lucas Mann of Orange Park, Florida; granddaughter, Amber Corman; great-grandsons, Jacob and Austin Parrett; great-granddaughter, Sabrina Ritz of Burbank, California; nephews; nieces; brother, Bob Rodgers of Destin, Arizona; sister, Janet Banning; and sister-in-law, Armina Juhasz. He was preceded in death by parents, Esther and William Rodgers; brother, Bud Rodgers; and grandson, Jeremiah Rodgers. Visitation for Daniel Clay Rodgers will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery Veteran's Field of Honor.
