Carl Richard "Dick" Allender, 58, a lifetime resident of Springfield died suddenly Monday, December 6, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born August 20, 1946 in Springfield the son of Wilbur R. and Milly (Sowers) Allender. Dick was a 1964 graduate of North High School and attended Wittenberg University. He served four years in the United States Air Force with an eighteen month tour of duty in Viet Nam where he received a Purple Heart. Dick returned to Springfield and went to work for Winters Bank, beginning a 33 year career as a Mortgage Banker and was currently employed by Huntington National Bank. He was a member of the Springfield Rotary Club and served as Chairman of the Rotary Special Olympics for the past eight years. Dick served on the boards of TAC Industries and the Interfaith Hospitality Network. He was a member of the North Hampton United Church of Christ, Anthony Lodge 455 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Shawnee Chapter 237, Springfield Council 17 R&SM and Palestine Commandery 33, Knights Templar. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Martha J. (Cook) Allender; his daughter Meghan Jean Allender attending Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo; his parents of Springfield; sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Terry O'Brien; brothers-in-law Ronald and Rita Cook, Larry and Brenda Cook, all of Springfield; sister-in-law Sylvia and Dave Stickel of New Carlisle; two nieces; four nephews; several great nieces and nephews.
