IVA -- Dan Wesley McCullough, age 49, husband of Deirdre Bowie McCullough, of 10307 Highway 81 S., Iva, passed away August 28, 2010, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Dan was born in Anderson County SC, on June 15, 1961, to Ted B. McCullough and the late Betty Jean Woodson McCullough. He was a 1979 graduate of Crescent High School; a 1983 graduate of Lander University; and continued his education at Clemson University, earning a Master's of Counseling in 1996. Dan began his teaching career at Elbert County Comprehensive High School in Georgia, where he coached and served as the sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for nine years. He taught several more years at Belton-Honea Path High School, then came to Starr-Iva Middle School, where he had worked for last thirteen years as a Guidance Counselor. Dan served as a Board Member for the Marie T. Bowie Foundation and the Director and Board Member of the Iva Recreation Department, where he was instrumental in establishing the new Parker Bowie Sports Complex. He was an active member of Good Hope Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Dan touched so many lives during his short time with us. He was truly a devoted husband and a wonderful father. Dan was known for making everyone feel welcome and special. He mentored many children, youth, and adults during his service in the community, church, and school. In addition to his wife Deirdre, Dan is survived by his father, Ted B. McCullough and his wife, Joyce, of Iva; three children, Jordan McCullough, Raegan McCullough and Grayson McCullough, all of the home; a sister, Karen McMullan and her husband, Rick of Iva; three brothers, Teddy McCullough and his wife, Debbie, Marion McCullough and Bryan McCullough and his wife, Jill, all of Iva; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thrashley "Rock" and Nancy Bowie. In addition to his mother, Dan is predeceased by his grandparents, Lewis and Kathleen McCullough and Lee and Irene Woodson; and a brother, Ronald Eugene McCullough. Interment in Iva City Cemetery. The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson.
