Archibald was born in Union County, GA, the fifth child of James "Glancer" or "Grancer" and Elizabeth "Betsy" Collins Nix, He was a farmer by occupation and lived his entire life in the same county in which he was born. He married Sarah Ann Elvira Williamson on April 4, 1862 in a ceremony performed by Justice of the Peace Thompson Collins, who was Archibald's uncle.

Archibald and Sarah made their home in the Choestoe community of Union County and raised a family of eight children: John Wesley, Laura J., Ruth Alice (nicknamed "Nellie"), Adeline E., "Addie," Ariete "Etta" V., Columbus Hannibal "Lum", Arthur H., and Minnie M.

In my Carringer family tree, Archibald is my maternal Great(2)Grand-Uncle via marriage.
