Darrell G. Lee, 87, of Mount Lake Terrace, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010.
He was born to Otto and Matilda Lee in Benson, Minnesota, August 24, 1922. Darrell graduated from Benson High School in 1940. He was one of 10 children and is survived by his sister, Bertha and his brother, Enoch.
He worked for JC Penny's for a time after graduation and then joined the Army and served aboard the USS Comfort (a hospital ship) from 1942 - 1945.
He was married to the late Anna Ruth Nordhaus; they lived together in Washington and Oregon.
After WWII, Darrell worked for the railroads in Oregon, and then for the US Post Office in Washington State for 28 years. During that time he was also active in church, Boy Scouts and the Sons of Norway.
Darrell loved people, gardening, working with his hands, traveling and singing. He and Anna Ruth were host parents for exchange students from around the world. They traveled around the US and enjoyed extensive and memorable journeys to New Zealand and Europe.
He is survived by six children. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., May 29, at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S, Edmonds, WA 98020, (425) 771-1234. Service will be followed by a Graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Park in Edmonds. Bethesda Lutheran Church is hosting a Memorial Luncheon to conclude the celebration of Darrell's life; 23406 56th Ave, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043; (425) 778-6390.
