The fears which we mentioned in our last issue as existing regarding the result of the illness of Mr John McAuslan,sr,were verified by the decease of that gentleman on Saturday afternoon last. Mr McAuslan came to Galt in 1843. and has ...continuously among us... a quiet, inoffensive man, and was ...respected. For several years past ...had charge of the toll gate on the...road, near the Corporation line. The funeral took place on Monday last, and was highly attended. (Galt Reporter; Sept 13, 1878).
McAuslan Street, the name McAuslan connected with Galt at any time during the past 50 years recalls Canada's national winter game, curling. This street was named after John McAuslan, custodian of the Toll Gate on the Dundas Road at the east end of the town ...(Waterloo Historical Society Seventh Annual Report, 1919 p.69).
