John Riley Akers, 75, died at his home in Centertown Saturday morning.
Funeral services were conducted from the Bates Hill Cumberland Presbyterian church at 11 o'clock Monday morning by Rev. W.E. Miller and Rev. J.T. Carrick. Burial was in the Centertown cemetery.
Mr. Akers was born in Warren county September 25, 1866, and was a son of the late William Riley and Sarah Ruth (Barnes) Akers.
For a number of years he was engaged in the mercantile business at Centertown and in addition there to was engaged in farming and stock raising. He always took an active part in the civic and political life of his community.
Mr. Akers has been in failing health for the past several years but did not become critically ill until a short time before his death.
Survivors include his widow and several children.
