He was born in Danville on July 21, 1932 and was 80 years old. He was the son of the late Jessie Oliver Walker and Lena Morris Walker Wyatt and was married to Peggy Andrews Walker who survives. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church where he was a lay reader, a Sunday school teacher and had a nursing home ministry at Boston Manor for over 40 years. He worked at Burlington Industries for 30 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Andrews Walker, of South Boston; one daughter, Tammy Walker, of South Boston; one sister, Doris Pillar, of Reidsville, N.C.; one brother, Curtis Wayne Walker, of Supply, N.C.
He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene Walker, J.W. Walker, James Walker and Clovis Walker.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Todd McClure and the Rev. Coy Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at his home.
