Gerald "Jerry" Krause, age 67 of Clintonville, WI passed away Friday evening May 7, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Gerald Lyman Krause was born July 3, 1942 in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. He was the eldest of the three children of Lyman and Olga (nee Siech) Krause. Jerry grew up in a house built by his mother's family, near his grandparents' farm in rural Gillett, WI. He was a 1960 graduate of Gillett High School. In the fall of 1956, he met Jane Woodke, who attended the same middle school. They were married March 18, 1961 at Tabor United Methodist Church in Gillett. During and after high school, Jerry was employed as a lathe operator by Worvel Products in Gillett. In April of 1964, he took a job as a welder at FWD Corp. in Clintonville. It was the beginning of a 36-year career at FWD/Seagrave, which included jobs as a machinist, tool and die maker, shop foreman, and shop superintendent. Jerry suffered a stroke in April of 2000 that caused him to retire permanently from The Drive that fall. He remained a member of the FWD Foreman's Club, and enjoyed attending their meetings, as well as stopping by the machine shop after he retired. Jerry and Jane and their young family moved to Clintonville in the spring of 1966. While employed full-time at FWD, Jerry held part-time jobs as a mechanic and courier. He was also a part-time police officer for the City of Clintonville in the late 60s. In 1975, he joined the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, and remained a firefighter until 1987. He had been a member of the Clintonville United Methodist Church since 1966. Jerry had a lifelong love of the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many fall seasons hunting deer and fowl in the Clintonville area, and fished year-round. He was a member of the Leopolis Fish and Game Club since 1975. He trained to be a mechanic as a teenager and enjoyed working on car and outboard motor engines for most of his life. He also enjoyed sports. He was a league bowler in Clintonville for 35 years, and played slow-pitch softball well into his forties. He also coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball and was a past president of the Clintonville Boys League. He is survived by: His wife Jane, of Clintonville.
