A lifelong resident of Southington, Mr. Triano joined the force full time in 1944 and was appointed captain in 1973. For many years, he ran the detective division while his brother, G. Robert Triano, was chief. Mr. Triano was cited for his police work in catching a burglar who was accused of holding up a package store and murdering the owner in the Milldale section.
Mr. Triano and his brothers Bob and Sal formed a singing trio that performed locally.
He leaves his wife, Florence D. Triano; a son, Frank J. Triano Jr. of Higganum; three daughters, Barbara Petit of Plainville, Johanna Ierna of Portland and Andrea Triano of the Marion section of Southington; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
