Dr. Christopher S. Fenner was perhaps the foremost surgeon of Memphis during the Civil War and the period immediately preceding. His career in Louisville following his removal there justified the prestige he had maintained in Memphis.

He graduated from Yale Medical in 1844 and was listed as Christopher Smith Fenner, Scituate RI. He was the author of Vision: Its Optical Defects, And The Adaptation Of Spectacles. Cause of death: consumption.
