Madeleine M. Keown, 93, a resident of Pleasant Valley Manor, formerly
of Saylorsburg, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in the Pocono Medical
Center in East Stroudsburg.
Born: In Palmerton, Pa., a daughter of the late Robert A. and Freida A. Bitzer Christman.
Personal: Her husband, Leon Carl Keown, died earlier.
Madeleine and her husband had owned and operated the Effort Drive-In, which was the first drive-in movie theater in Monroe County.
Survivors: a daughter, Karlene Wicks, and her husband, Eddie, of Swiftwater, Pa.; two granddaughters, Kathleen Hallet, and her husband, Dean, of Henryville, Pa., and Sandra Tousley, and her husband, Mark, of Easley, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Robbie Hallet, both of Henryville and Jodi Marsh, and her husband, Mike, of
Albrightsville, Pa.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lynn Nations of Albrightsville.
Three brothers, Norman, Robert and Charles Christman, and a sister, Esther Altemose, all died earlier.
