Sumter, July 21 - Timothy W Lee, one of the most highly respected citizens of Sumter county, died suddenly about 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning of heart failure in the office of A J Moses on Harby Court. Mr Lee had come into the city on business from his home a few miles from the city, and feeling unwell stepped into Mr Moses' office. In a few minutes he was stricken and died almost immediately.

Mr Lee was a native of Sumter and had spent his entire life of 74 years in the county. He was a son of the late George W Lee and a brother of the late Col E D Lee. He served in the Confederate army as a mere youth during the closing years of the war, and in every emergency throughout his life that called for the service of a loyal citizen he did his full duty. he served the county of Sumter as county treasurer for three terms and then declined to stand for reelection, although he could probably have continued in the office indefinitely had he so desired, as he was both thoroughly efficient as a public officer and personally popular. He is survived by one son, Maj W Loring Lee of this city, and one daughter, Mrs Jennings.

The funeral services were held Friday at 4:30 o'clock at the residence of Maj W Lee on north Main street. The interment will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
