Jacob was born in Ruccheim and came from Germany to the United States around 1847 with his parents, brothers and sisters. His wife, Elisabeth Baer, came to the United States with her parents and brothers in 1844. Her parents purchased a farm in Ridge Prairie, St. Clair co., IL. The Baer and Langenwalter farms were about ten miles apart. Jacob and Elisabeth were married in a double ring ceremony in St. Clair co., in the Baer home. The other couple was Anna Elizabeth Langenwalter and Jacob Baer. Jacob and Elizabeth lived on a farm near her parents. Jacob died from cholera, and five days later his twenty-two month old son died from the same disease. Both were buried in the Baer cemetery. While the Baer family were Mennonite, the Langenwalters were either Presbyterians or Evangelicals.
