MAX W. RICKARD, Maryland Apartments, 21 S. Potomac St., died at the Washington County Hospital Thursday morning following an illness of several months, aged 72.

He was a former Chief of Police in Hagerstown, retiring June 1948. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Police, Eastern Division, a former member of the Norfolk and Western Railroad Police, Shenandoah Division, and was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Hagerstown. He served four years in the Navy in World War I, and 2 1/2 years in the Army Artillery in France. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Helen F. Glass, Beaumont, Tx.; Mrs. Harry K. Brenner, East Brunswick, NJ; sons, John T., Martinsburg, WV, US Air Force; Joseph A., Hagerstown; Donald A., Rockville; sisters, Mrs. Alice Shank, and Mrs. Fannie Shaw, Hagerstown; brothers, Fred N., Hagerstown; Marlon, Williamsport; Reed, Rohrersville; Clayton, Clear Spring.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church; interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery; arrangements by the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel.
