Mr. Bieker died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. He was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Ellis County, the son of Frank and Emma (Herrman) Bieker, and attended schools in Ellis County.
On Nov. 24, 1938, he married Helen Appelhans at St. Peter. They moved to Collyer, where he farmed for several years. They moved to Garden City in 1952.
Mr. Bieker worked at the sugar beet factory for several years before going to work as a salesman for Garden City Laundry, where he worked for 20 years. After his retirement, he drove the mini-bus for the Senior Center for seven years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus No. 2795. He enjoyed baseball, visiting with people, dancing, loved to play the fiddle, and once had his own polka band.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Duane Bieker and Stan Bieker, both of Garden City, and Jerry Bieker, Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Diane Florer, York, Neb., and Janelle Michel, Garden City; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ron Bieker.
Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are to Garden Valley Retirement Village or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.
