Good jobs were hard to find in the late 1910s and 1920s so Bill went north and in 1917 worked for the American Bridge Company in Mahonning county, OH. He served briefly stateside in the Army during WWI. By 1920 he and his brothers had relocated to Akron, OH where the rubber industry was booming. Bill found work at BF Goodrich - he ended up working there for 42 years retiring as an inspector.
Bill met Wilhemina "Minnie" Schmutzler in the early 1920s and they married February 10, 1923. They had three children: William Oscar Jr., Joyce & Marilyn.
Bill Clayton remained in Akron the rest of his life. He passed away in October 1982.
