Leon James "Shorty" Stacey, 70, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away May 10, 2013, at Bonaventure Senior Living Center.

Leon was born May 25, 1942, in Poplar, Idaho, to James William Stacey and Ora Killian Stacey. He had 2 older brothers (Jay & Dee) and an older sister (Ida). He grew up and attended schools in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. He later went to Eastern Iowa Technical College where he received his welding certification. He married Noreen Ward in 1962 and moved to Idaho Falls. They had three children (Lynette, Bryan, and Connie Adele) and were later divorced.

Leon married Marilyn Kay Shurtliff on November 4, 1972. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Leon and Marilyn had two children Kari Lyn and Matthew. They made their home in Idaho Falls where Leon supported his family working as an industrial mechanic for U&I Sugar Factory and for the Idaho National Laboratory where he was an active member and supporter of OCAW. He also spent time working as a boat mechanic for Romrell's. He was a dedicated husband and loved Marilyn very much. Their favorite times were spent together traveling, spending time with their children, and spoiling their grandkids. Marilyn passed away January 4, 2011.

Leon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held various callings. Leon enjoyed all outdoor sports, but especially fishing and hunting. He was a master gardener and would grow everything from potatoes, corn, peas, strawberries, rhubarb, and his neighborhood famous green apples. He was always happy to share produce with friends and family alike. He was also known to be able to fix anything and had an amazing ability to create things that would make life easier or work better. He was always quick to volunteer his talents to help anyone in need and there was never a project that was too big or small. Leon never sat still and would always be tinkering with something.

Leon is survived by
