Shelly L. Morgan, 81 of Camby, IN, formerly of Terre Haute and Brazil, passed away May 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 22, 1932 in Ponca City, OK, the son of Dr. Louis Schubert Morgan, M.D. and Billye Benefiel Morgan. Shelly graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO in 1957 and was Ordained in the Assemblies of God Denomination. Shelly later received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Indiana University and his Master's Degree in Education from Indiana State University. Shelly taught first at Sarah Scott Junior High School, then Garfield High School and in 1972 Terre Haute North High School and Mr. Morgan taught English, Social Studies, Economics and U.S. History during his career. Mr. Morgan also sponsored Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Bible Club. He retired from teaching in 1995.

Shelly was also known as Rev. Shelly Morgan holding positions in the Spencer First Assembly of God Church for four years and then later at the Assembly of God Church on N. 13th Street in Terre Haute. There he was the music director and the assistant minister. Shelly taught at the Federal Prison and in his later years he was active in Bible Study and ministry at the House of Hope in Clay County. Shelly always supported youth programs, especially Youth for Christ.

On December 21, 1957 Shelly was united in marriage to Hilda Shields Morgan. Together they raised their family in a house filled with faith, love and music. Shelly found joy in his many friends and also in nature. He loved feeding the birds, tending to his flowers and gardening.

Survivors include his dear wife Hilda of Camby, IN; their sons, Rob Morgan of Tampa, FL, and Rick Morgan and wife Terrie of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Preston Morgan, Gentry Morgan, Ethan Morgan and Paige Morgan; a half-brother Dr. Louis Morgan of Bartlesville, OK; sister in law and brother in law, Jayme and Larry Hamilton, of Fishers; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Louis Morgan; his mother Billye Visek and step-father Dr. August Visek; two brothers Maurice Morgan and Gene Morgan.

Pallbearers will include grandchildren and special friends, Tim Thacker, Wade Thacker and Gail Siler.


Funeral Information

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, IN. with Pastors Tim Russell and Johnny Garrison officiating; Honorary Officiant, Rev. D. Leroy Sanders. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until service time at 1:30.
