Carolyn Julia Kahanek Newton, 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 08, 2013.

She was born in Yoakum, Texas on October 5, 1920, to the late Joe and Mary Mikulencak Kahanek of El Campo.

She married Wade Neil Newton on January 12, 1939 at the home of the pastor of the First Methodist Church in El Campo.

Wade and Carolyn opened and operated Newton Lumber Company from 1947 to 1970. After that they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico and became active in several local organizations, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, AARP and Sons of Herrmann.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Louis and Mary Mikulencak Kahanek, brothers, Edwin, Julius, Joe Jim and Jerry; and sisters, Viola Opella, Lillian Stone and Edith Esders.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Wade Neil Newton; Gordon and Christine Newton of El Campo; Barbara and Edward Smith of El Campo and Jane and Jack Reynolds of Austin; six grandchildren, Julie Prause, Russell Smith, Susan Biskup, Paige Crew, Jennifer Burns, Kimberly Johnson and six great grandchildren, Garrison Smith, Savanna Smith, Makayla Biskup, Tori Biskup, Krisitin Newton and Kasey Burns. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Odis and Lorraine Newton and Forrest and Norma Newton and many nieces and nephews.

Pall bearers are Russell Smith, Mark Biskup, Bill Newton, Ronnie Smith, Warren Johnson and Steve Shelton.

Honorary Pallbearers are Odis Newton, Forrest Newton, Edward Smith, Jack Reynolds, Ty Prause, Chris Burns, Don & Dennis Wiggington, D. D. Hill, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Beverly Schmidt officiating.
