Anne Lee Haynes and Frances Haynes were young sisters who lived at Ashantilly in the old residence built ca. 1820 as their mainland home by Thomas and Sarah Spalding of Sapelo Island. The sisters were natives of Atlanta. Their younger brother, William G. Haynes continued to reside in the Ashantilly house, restored after a 1930's fire, at the time of this writing in 1997.
Anne was the illustrator of several books including: Life on a Liberty County Plantation, by Josephine Bacon Martin; The Journal of Cornelia Jones Pond; and, The Country Place, by Marie E. Reddy.
