Schuyler Lake ~ Mrs. Eugene Marriott
Verna, wife of Eugene Marriott, passed peacefully way Friday morning at 7 o'clock at Bassett Hospital Cooperstown, where she was taken Thursday. She gave birth to a little son, August 1st, and seemed to be doing nicely until Sunday when she was taken suddenly worse and rapidly failed until the end. She was born October 28, 1897, in this township. She was the only child of Willard and Inzie (Hinds) Ostrander and her whole life was spent in this vicinity. Eleven years ago she was married to Charles Bailey who died about seven years ago. One child, Ethelyn, blessed this union.
In 1919 she was married to Eugene Marriott, and to them were born five children: June aged 4; twins, Iris and Inez aged three years; Geraldine, who died a year ago at the age of ten months and Paul aged one week. She was a kind and devoted mother and will be greatly missed in the home, where a mother's care is so much needed, as well as among her large circle of friends.
She leaves to mourn her death besides her husband and children already mentioned her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Ostrander. Her mother tenderly cared for her during her last illness, doing all that was possible for her comfort.
The funeral was held from the home, Monday at 2 p.m., the Reverend Davies of Richfield Springs officiating. Burial was made beside her child in the village cemetery. The floral tributes were many and beautiful and she who was a great lover of flowers was laid to rest among a bed of flowers. The sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the husband and motherless babies and aged parents.
